Building the footing

The next step in the process is to build the footing- the bottom of the outer cradle. The total size is 12 feet by 16 feet, but Matrix built the form a few inches wider in each direction, so that when the time comes to form the walls, the forms will have a solid footing upon which to rest.

After they build the form and tie the rebar grid, the Building Inspector will come in to make sure that it’s done according to the plans, and then they can pour the footing. We’re making progress, folks!

Please support our mikvah project, with either a one-time donation (using the progress widget to the right) or recurring monthly donations (above the progress widget). For dedication opportunities, please contact Rabbi Rabinowitz. All donations are tax deductible.

The outer form built, with the rebar grid lying on the floor inside it.

The braces on the form, built to make 3-4-5 triangles with the corners.

The copper wire grounding bonded to the rebar grid.

The uprights bonded to the grid.

The "chairs" upon which the rebar grid sat, so it would be in the middle of the concrete slab when they pour.

The uprights bonded to the grid and fastened to the form for the keyway (a groove in the footing into which the wall will be poured, for added support).

The grid on the chairs with the uprights covered for safety.
